One very spoiled grandchild - Natalie, who is nearly 4. I went back to college and became an RN and also got my BSN. I worked in critical care for 12 years and then home health for the next 12. Most of my years were spent in management and I am currently taking a year off from the stress of the working world. Variety is the spice of life and I have always maintained that by
having interests other than work. One of my favorite activities was performing Hawaiian and Tahitian dances and belly dancing! This opened up a whole other world of cultures and interesting people. These days my interests are a little tamer because of age and a bad back and I now love to do interior decorating, photography, drawing, and genealogy and have traced my family history back to 1169! We like to travel and I finally broke down and went on a cruise last year because I guess I'm old enough for that now. But mostly we do everyday things like taking our two dogs for a walk nearly every day, going to movies, and visiting with friends and family.

JOE DOLCE - Melbourne, Australia, for 30 years. 29 of those years has been spent with partner, Lin Van Hek, whom I also sing and perform with. Together, we created the literary-music show, 'Difficult Women', in 1995, which has toured Europe and Canada many times, (most recently Estonia!) and together, we have six children, Bill, Couz, Sara, Blaise, Ever, & Brea, and nine grandkids: Henry, Dylan, Jack, Jesse, Ed, and most recently, Camille, Mistica ,Leila and Nara. Interests: Social activism and politics, writing, chess, cooking, computer stuff, and regular wilderness living - besides the main passion which has always been music since I first sang in public in a Lake Erie Girls College production of 'Les Precieuses Ridicule' in 1965 (my co-star, and subsequent High School prom date! was Lake Erie Sophomore Carol Dunlop (who later went on to marry Julio Cortazar, who wrote the '60s film, 'Blow Up'.) Since leaving Harvey: 2 years at Ohio University in Architecture- tuned in, turned on and dropped out, resisted the Vietnam draft, passed through the FreeLove Movement in California, lived on communes in Hawaii, worked at a variety of jobs from hamburger 'chef' (at Wendy's) to brokerage (Auchinclauss Parker & Redpath, Wall Street), and all aspects of house renovation in Berkeley, CA. I have focused on music as a career, currently performing, songwriting (blues, folk and pop) and composing more classically oriented material (self-taught). A more comprehensive list of recordings and further CV information are on the websites listed below. RECENT NEWS - Texan singer-songwriter ROBERT EARL KEEN JR. (Dubya's favourite country singer - boo hiss!)) released a song I wrote 30 years ago 'My Home Ain't In The Hall of Fame' as his first single, off his most recent CD, 'Gravitational Forces.' I'm happy Robert Earl recorded it but I'm ticked off to no end when I think of George W MonkeyAss singing it in the shower. US Hip-Hop group, KRS-ONE, released a rap version of my well-known hit song, retitled 'Shutupayouface', on their album, Sneak Attack'. My version of Shaddap You Face, was a Number 1 hit in 15 countries, covered by over 35 international artists, and has held the record for the most successful song in Australian music history for over 29 years. I also wrote a song with my partner Lin that was in the first TERMINATOR movie. (It was the track playing on the 2nd Sara's earphones ('Intimacy') when Big Arnold crushed them with his boot! Watch for it.) I became an Australian citizen some years ago while still retaining my US citizenship, making me a dual national. Currently, I have just sold my first serious poem to a major Australian poetry magazine and am in pre-production for my first book of poems, HATBOX.

After Harvey, I attended Ohio University just long enough for the Dean of Men to see my true potential ... and so, I left Athens, Ohio. I eventually found my way back to Painesville and Lake Erie College for Women (becoming one of only two fulltime male students at the time -- a very special experience); studying on and off for the next 10 years ... I was the only student with tenure. A few years into my LEC experience, I took a break and bummed around Europe for seven months in 1969, returning home just in time to decline an invitation to go along to something called "Woodstock." Who knew? During and after college, I worked at various bartending jobs and for a time was part-owner of the appropriately named, "Wit's End" bar. Shortly after its demise, I put my college training to use and found work as an actor in regional theaters and summer stock in New York, Michigan and Ohio, as well as industrial videos and local TV & radio commercials. Around this time I also began writing scripts on a freelance basis for a Cleveland ad agency, Fox & Associates, which eventually led to a fulltime position as a writer/producer. In 1986 I opened my own creative services agency, The AdWorks Inc., located in Cleveland's Historic Warehouse District, where I continue to create award-winning product, should you be in the market...

It was easier than I thought to ride on the "wrong" side of the road. When I decide on a vacation location, I buy bicycle routes books through many sources: The local bike club, book stores, travel bureaus, Amazon.com and local Department of Transportation. The books have led us to many beautiful bike trails. One of our favorites is in Rhode Island from Providence to Bristol 30 miles of a paved trail. I also ride my bike to work every day year around. Each way takes about an hour to Brooklyn Heights. I love the dedicated bike path along side the Hudson river. I was very lucky this winter and did not miss one day of riding!

KAREN JOY SMITH - Over the years I have lived in several different places: the Chicago area, Delaware, and now the state of Washington. We have a cougar that frequents our property (not a good thing) and we have had one bear on our front porch (which our trusty and brave little dog drove off from inside the house!), occasionally we see eagles here and deer are and everyday item. We live in a modest NW house (as opposed to the newer dwellings that are being built) at about 1010' elevation on one of the foothills on the western flank of the Cascade Mountains. I noticed that in the Anvil Senior Index I commented that I liked living beyond the "sticks". At that point in my life this would definitely have met that criteria! However, we are not nearly as remote as it is 5 minutes from here where you can see for miles and could very easily get lost never to be found again! From places close to here I can see mountains (actually they are volcanoes) that are 210 miles away! We also have the "Columbia Gorge" about 20 minutes away and by driving east through that we can be in desert country in about one hour. If we drive west over the coastal mountains we can be at the Pacific shoreline in about 1 1/2 hours. You don't swim in that ocean, it is not safe nor warm, but it sure is beautiful to walk along the edge. My husband, Tom, works for the Union Pacific Railroad out of Portland, OR. so he has a very unpredictable schedule. He likes his job as his hobby is also railroads. We have one son, Allen, who is currently a Junior at Union University in Jackson, TN. He is there on a full scholarship, a result of divine intervention and hard work on his part as he was a National Merit Scholar for the class of 2000. We are so blessed to have Allen, he is a great kid (I guess at 20 you aren't a kid but I can't adjust to the age change!). While I was living in those different places I also had different occupations. I started out in casework and am grateful for the skills it gave me but it just was not something I enjoyed doing so I switched to horticulture. I learned that occupation at "the school of hard knocks" as my one boss put it. I had the opportunity to work at two different institutions and enjoyed both. At the encouragement of one of my bosses I started a business selling botanical labels on the side. I kept that going for 15 years as I held down a full time job. I enjoyed the business as it combined graphic art skills with botanical knowledge and through the labels I was able to learn more about unique private and public plant collections across the United States. When Allen arrived, and there were several times where it looked like he might not make it, I decided to retire from all my "jobs" and be a full time mom. That was a lot of fun and work since we decided to home school him starting in 9th grade. Now that he is partially launched I've teased him that I am replacing him with a horse! Which is exactly what I am doing. Come this spring my Paso Fino colt will be broke out to ride and I'll have a Big baby to take care of! The last several years I have been taking clinics on horse skills and hopefully by the time he arrives here I will be ready! I still enjoy landscaping and gardening along with photography, that pretty much sums up where I've been and what I'm up to.
